A thin blade so it's light to use and deep so fingers don't get in the way or contact the chopping board when chopping as they can with a shallow blade.
The blade is pushed out from the handle on the tang in a Japanese style which keeps the food away from the handle.
The depth of the blade and the curve of the cutting edge provides for a really nice rocking cut.
